Ayodhya is the Birthplace of Rama one of the sacred cities of India. Scholars generally agree that Ayodhya is identical to the town of Saketa, where the Buddha is said to have resided for a time. The Name Ayodhya is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yudh’; The name itself indicates an unconquerable city of gods. In ancient age, this place was famous for its prosperity and good skills. The name Ayodhya created a base for Many city names worldwide such as Ayutthaya and Yogyakarta. This beautiful and sacred city is situated near the holy River Saryu. Ayodhya is considered one of the seven most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus.
Ayodhya’s Relation with Epic Ramayana; It is believed that Ayodhya was known as Saket which was an ancient city in India, As per the source, the town was prosperous and well fortified with a large population. The name Saket was widespread among Buddhist travelers and far away traders for the collective name of the regions under this Kingdom, Saket is a famous Hindi Epic Poem by Maithili Sharan Gupt, a modern version of Ramcharitamanasa which described an ideal Hindu society and Rama as an ideal man.

The bulk of Jain temples can be found in Ayodhya the most famous one is “The Digambar Jain Temple” the holy palace where The founder of the Jain Religion “Rishabdev ji” was born.

It indicates that Ayodhya was one of the important centers of Buddhism as well. Ayodhya is the holy place for many religions including Jainism, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
